Projects

  • Mar and Nov 2026

Web-based carbon calculator for air travel. Enter a route and it returns a per-passenger CO2 estimate, with offset options and lower-impact alternatives. Two of us built it. I decided what it should do and handled the front end and the emissions calculation. As a follow-up, I was accepted to give a TED-style talk, “The carbon cost of being international”, at the FOBISIA Headmasters’ Conference in November 2026.

  • Jul 2026

Differential-drive robot that detects a person and follows them in real time. A Raspberry Pi 4 runs YOLOv5n, chosen for the Pi’s limited compute, and sends motor commands over serial to an ESP32-S3, which drives the wheels and the camera’s pan servo. Optimising the camera pipeline, the main bottleneck, raised the frame rate from 15 to 50 FPS.

  • Mar 2026

ESP32 display showing the time, weather and air quality, with a Pomodoro timer and a settings page served on the local network. Weather data comes from a weather API.

  • Feb to Mar 2026

Two servos per leg, eight in total, driven over I2C through a PCA9685 by an ESP32. I recalibrated the hip centres and added brownout protection. It reacts to touch and shows 16 animated faces on an OLED display.

  • Nov 2025

I got into FPV through the Uncrashed simulator and YouTube videos, then built my own from scratch. I assembled and soldered it; PID tuning in Betaflight was the hard part.
